利用穿刺試驗得到樣品之內部質地，適用於各種不均勻樣品如泥塊、粘土、橡皮泥等，可得到其硬度（Hardness）、內聚性（Cohesiveness）與延展性（Extension）等參數。

Cylinder probes are used for puncture and penetration tests on mud block, clay and plasticine to provide an index of Hardness, Firmness or Yield Points. A puncture test measures both compressive and shear forces. Properties such as burst point and surface stickiness can also be identified.
