Compression platens are used for tests on self-supporting products such as gels, fruit, cheese and cake, and also on packaging. Direct or bulk compression tests require the test sample to be smaller than the compression platen and measure compression/recovery, failure mode and visco-elastic creep characteristics. Imitative results such as product freshness can also be determined from the tests.
